NIE number – National Identification Number.

It is now a requirement to obtain an NIE (identification number) if you want to sell or buy escritura timeshare week(s) and all of those escritura owners who gave WimPen a power of attorney ”to sell” must also obtain an NIE number in order that WimPen can exercise it at the appropriate time.

In order to obtain an NIE number you can apply in one of the following ways:

On you next holiday to Tenerife visit the nearest National Police Station and make an application. The relevant forms can be obtained via a number of Internet sites:

www.conspalon.org

Further information regarding the NIE, which offers notes for completing the application form, can be obtained from :

www.bluecosta.co.uk

The process can take 10 days so you would have to be on island for a two-week period in order to collect it and you must also be aware that you may have to queue for a lengthy time. Cost approximately 6 euros each.

In the UK you can visit your nearest Spanish Consulate, in either London, Manchester or Edinburgh. Details and application forms can be obtained via a number of Internet sites:

Approximate cost £22 per person.

www.conspalon.org

Further information regarding the NIE, which offers notes for completing the application form, can be obtained from :

www.bluecosta.co.uk

Be aware that you may have to queue.

WimPen have spoken to two Notaries in the UK who are prepared to obtain the NIE number at an approximate cost of £290 per couple.

Many of you will now know that Bernabe who has controlled the maintenance at Las Casitas for so many years passed away on the 26 th December 2003.

A seating bench is to be placed outside reception with a commemorative plaque.

Studio Beds

There was a problem with the sofa beds installed in the Studio units. We are pleased to report that we have identified a workshop in Tenerife that can manufacture and replace the fold down beds in a similar style. These have been ordered and are currently being made. It is hoped that these will be delivered at the beginning of June.

Las Casitas, Playa Blanca, Lanzarote
November 1982 to November 2002

My father first visited Lanzarote in 1970 and I first visited Playa Blanca in March 1983 by which time my father had already bought some weeks at Las Casitas. We were there on an inspection visit which cost us the princely sum of £100 including accommodation and flights for one week.

There were no tarmac roads in Playa Blanca at that time, no street lights and a torch light was an essential part of your equipment if you went out at night. There were only three restaurants all of which closed at 8.p.m unless you managed to persuade them to stay open until 9p.m.

The amazing thing was that my father was 70 at that time and it is difficult to imagine that he was only just beginning to purchase time share at his age. He had been looking to buy some property for several years all over Europe and the Canaries and nothing had seemed quite right until he saw the advertisement for the Wimpey development in Play Blanca. Indeed some of the sites in Lanzarote he was shown as possible development sites are still empty.

The attraction of Las Casitas was it’s location and the fact it was backed by an English Company (Wimpey). The complex was very small, all units were on ground level and the atmosphere was fantastic.

Although Playa Blanca has grown considerably and there has been a lot of development the Las Casitas Resort itself has changed very little and the view from the patio on the bar area looking out over the pool is little different to that of 20 years ago. It still retains it’s unique atmosphere even though many improvements have been made. Despite the fact that there is a comprehensive ongoing improvement programme on the resort part of it’s charm is that it still bears the hallmarks of a 20 year old time share development. This is only to be expected but is more than compensated for by it’s unique atmosphere. The gardens are well maintained and with the bungalows being well spaced out the whole site appears very spacious and open, unlike some more recent developments.

We have virtually retained the same management company since the start, first with Wimpey and then with WimPen, and this has been instrumental in its successful management. The ongoing management and maintenance of the resort has been good and maintenance fees have been kept to realistic levels unlike some of the more recent timeshare developments. Over the years I have seen a few changes as regards owners, visitors and staff on the resort we have had several resort managers but some of the original staff are still there, and the welcome you receive whenever you visit the resort is unsurpassed.

I have two brothers who both own on the Resort and as a family we have owned as many as 17 weeks there with up to four generations of our family making visits. I myself have visited the Resort at least once a year since 1983 with the exception of 2001, and some years I have been there in February/March, October/November and December/January. In fact my total length of occupancy on the resort over 20 years works out at almost 3 weeks per year. We have had many happy times there, probably culminating in October 2002 when we took four children out there together with their spouses and grandchildren making a total of 19 altogether. This contingent, coupled with many longstanding friends who have been frequenting Las Casitas for many years resulted in a great party at the prince William Bar which is now run by Ronnie and Maureen.

There is no doubt in my mind that, despite being the first time share resort in the Canaries and therefore being a bit of an experiment, Las Casitas has stood the test of time well and has a lot going for it which other larger and more modern resorts may not. As long as it continues to be managed as well as it has and the owners continue to look to the future there is no reason why it should not continue

20 YEARS AS AN OWNER AT LAS CASITAS

As one of the first owners 20 years ago I have never had any regrets of buying a Wimpey Timeshare villa at Las Casitas, Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.
Apart from many excellent RCI exchanges made since my early retirement, my wife and I never tire of returning to Las Casitas and always enjoy a relaxing holiday there.

Las Casitas is superbly situated very close to all the facilities of the still unspoilt village of Play Blanca with many restaurants, bars and shops and its lovely beach and others nearby.
Las Casitas still retains the original Spanish style villas, furnishing and décor. Being a small complex, 48 villas, it never becomes overcrowded. There is an excellent swimming pool, bar and tennis court.
Las Casitas has always been well maintained by the management company, which is now WimPen Leisure, and you are always made most welcome by the management and staff on site.
Congratulations to Las Casitas on its 20th Anniversary.
